In this episode Mike and Scott begin their new format, at least for the time being. Instead of covering one book an episode they are going to discuss a cover month worth of Justice Society related comics. This week that cover month is May 1984, which included All-Star Squadron #33 (where the Spectre gets whiney and the Freedom Fighters fight for...well, they fight for freedom...it is kind of in the name) and Infinity, Inc. #2 (where the Infiitors settles on a name and eat at a thinly disguised McDonald's). These books are a mixed bag leading to the usual mix of commentary and banter that you have come to expect from this show. You'll laugh. You'll cry. It will become a part of you. Hand to God. Next time: June 1984. Your reading assignments are All-Star Squadron #34 and Infinity, Inc. #3! Scott and Mike head back to the forties this week to cover All-Star Squadron #32. Well, they get to that eventually. First they become sidetracked with Mike going on and on about some funny books he is selling on eBay and then they end up talking about the whole Before Watchmen thing, which was not their original intention. With all of that out of the way the guys dive into the issue and Mike ends up being a tad more critical of the artwork than Scott was. The story was cool though and we find out the back story of how Uncle Sam not only got a bunch of heroes killed but ended up getting the United States involved in World War II on an alternate Earth. Plus we get more of Hourman and Wonder Woman ties a few heroes up to get them to tell the truth, which is probably less creepy than it sounds. You can check out Mike’s eBay auctions by clicking on this link! Next time: All-Star Squadron #32 and Infinity Inc. #2! Tales of the JSA has reached yet another milestone! Infinity, Inc. is here. Scott and Mike kick this series off in fine style first by bringing back the original theme music to the show and then by spending the first twenty or so minutes of the show talking about stuff other than Infinity, Inc. #1. This is how they roll. If you have been listening to the show for any length of time you should have expected it, really. The guys begin the episode by talking about how sick they both are, proving that they are huge whiners. Then Mike brings up the recently announced Earth-2 related series that DC will be publishing in a few months. This is followed by talk of DC's new logo, which is not at vitriolic as you might expect. Then, finally, Mike and Scott cover Infinity, Inc. #1 and you will be surprised at how the guys feel about this first issue. Next time: All-Star Squadron #32. Awesome just knocked on Scott and Mike's door and thankfully they answered! This week the guys cover All-Star Squadron #31, which not only has a bitchin' cover but is also the start of a bitchin' storyline. What happens when Uncle Sam shows up at the first official meeting of the All-Stars and says that he needs their help? Well, they argue about it actually. For several pages. Then there is a kick ass cliffhanger ending and Mike and Scott are once again excited about reading this title. They also discuss other aspects of the issue, the possible end of an American treasure and the future of this podcast. Next time: The first issue of Infinity, Inc.! This week Scott and Mike discuss All-Star Squadron #30, which features the Justice Battalion fighting against the Black Dragon Society. It also has a cover that begs the question, "What is so wrong with that?" Sigh. Anyway, the guys tackle something else in this episode which may result in it being the most controversial Tales of the JSA they have ever done. Roy Thomas addresses a part of World War II history that most people would probably like to forget and the opinions on that subject and on how Thomas handled it may not be popular. But that is only one small part of the episode. Mostly it is Scott and Mike poking fun at the goofiness of the story and Mike complaining that it has been like three or four issues since we have actually seen the All-Star Squadron proper. NEXT TIME: That changes next time as the guys cover All-Star Squadron #31, which features the first official meeting of that team and boy is the cover AWESOME. It needs to be a T-shirt or a poster. It really does. Two True Freaks! is a proud member of BOTH the Comics Podcast Network (http://www.comicspodcasts.com/) and the League of Comic Book Podcasts (http://www.comicbooknoise.com/league/)!! Scott and Mike end 2011 on a high note by looking All-Star Squadron #29, which is one of the best issues of the series ever! That fact is kind of odd when you consider the All-Stars don't make much of an appearance in the story but that doesn't matter because the focus of this week's issue is none other than the Seven Soldiers of Victory! That's right, Green Arrow, Speedy, Vigilante, Shining Knight, the Star-Spangled Kid and Stripesy (along with Wing) fight Dr. Doome (no foolin') and the greatest tyrants of history in a story that is liberally adapted from Leading Comics #3. The guys have a lot of fun talking about this one in addition to looking at the ads (SUPERMAN PEANUT BUTTER) and checking out what other titles were on the stands when this comic was published. Next time: All-Star Squadron #30. It is a tad controversial. MERRY CHRISTMAS! This week, Scott and Mike take a break from their normal coverage to bring you a holiday classic in the form of Brave and the Bold #184! The Huntress of Earth-2 visits her "uncle" Bruce on Earth-1 just in time for the Batman to learn that his father might have been backing a mobster making all of his work as the Dark Knight a lie! Can the Batman clear his father's name? And what does a reject from the old Dallas television series have to do with this? Well you'll just have to listen, folks! PLUS...a true Christmas surprise as Scott and Mike bring back a beloved segment that was the highlight (and some say the only good part) of the early episodes of this series! Mike and Scott want everyone to have a happy and safe holiday season! No really. They do. Promise. Scott and Mike have returned once again to both entertain and amuse you. Whether or not they are successful at this is debatable but they are back to chat about All-Star Squadron #28, which is the second part of a two issue arc that the guys...didn't really care for. There was a lot to poke fun at this time too with Sargon the Sorcerer showing up, the JSA beings complete tools to the Atom and Dr. Mid-Nite once again piloting a vehicle when that makes no sense because the guy is frickin' blind. Oddly enough (or maybe not considering the history of this show) half the episode is spent talking about the ads and what else was going on in the DC Multiverse at the time leading to two HUGE tangents that will hopefully be a lot of fun. Next time: Something special for Christmas!
